I use Windows 7 Pro and I am thinking about using SyncToy 2.1 to sync my photo files to an external HD. This will be IN ADDITION TO A BACK-UP, NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A BACK-UP.  Is there a better program than SyncToy for this purpose?  If so, I would love to hear some suggestions.

I have been using goodsync  and am very pleased with it.  I have been able to sync photo files in the cloud and on other external disks with speed and little confusion as to process.  Highly recommended.

The answers above are good but don't address your question about SyncToy.  I have been using it for many many years and still use it with Win 7.1 Professional and still like it a lot.  As for alternates, goodSync is probably the best one out there.

I have been using SyncbackFree for a couple of years now and I like it and have had no issues.Very easy to use too. And, as bradmangas said, it's free!
